Blogging and Storytelling: How to Work Long-Term With Brands

On a Lake Erie peninsula 60 miles west of Cleveland sits one of the world's most iconic amusement parks. Millions visit Cedar Point each summer and the park has been part of my life since moving to Ohio in 1998. From my first date with my husband to sharing roller coaster rides with our son, it's been the ideal place for family memories.

While my web site started out as deals only, I have gone onto writing lifestyle/travel articles as well. My family loves to travel and check out new places. I started working with Cedar Point professionally in 2012 when I attended my first blogging event at the park. As part of their blogging outreach, Cedar Point hosts blogging days to highlight occasions such as the start of the summer operating season or the kick off to their annual Halloween event. This eventually lead to additional opportunities to work with Cedar Point, as well as their outdoor waterpark, Soak City, and their indoor waterpark resort, Castaway Bay.

Not only have I developed a great working relationship with the staff at Cedar Point, I've also been able to connect with and get to know other bloggers. Working with Cedar Point has lead to personal and professional growth in a number of areas.

It's easy to get caught up in the world of email and social media. Meeting people face-to-face and putting a face to a brand has been a tremendous asset. Cedar Point's blogging events help make that possible.

While working with them for several years, I have learned the value of great photography. You don't need an expensive camera to take great photos. I've learned to use my iPhone, along with a basic understanding of composition, to take advantage of the countless number of photo opportunities Cedar Point offers.

Besides great photography, telling a compelling story is essential. A day at Cedar Point can be a roller coaster-riding adventure or an easy-going day of live entertainment and great food. No matter which path is chosen, the story is easy to share. That storytelling experience has been helpful when working with other brands.
