There is nothing worse than coming down with a cold-and even worse when your child gets sick!
My son Cam got a bad cold a few days before his Christmas concert last month. We've tried different cough syrups with him, but he didn't like the taste. Coincendentally, I had received this gift basket just in time from P&G (they sent me one to try out). Cam's cough had gotten worse and we tried the Cough and Chest Congestion medicine. The honey in the medicine really did the trick for soothing his cough!
I also made my great-grandmother's homemade remedy for soothing coughs. This is the handwritten recipe book I inherited, filled with recipes from the early 1900's:
As my grandmother and mother always taught me, warm drinks help to get rid of coughs and throat irritation. To make the tea, mix a few spoonfuls of lemon, honey in 8 oz. of water and heat on the stove (or microwave for 45 seconds) or until desired temperature.
The honey will coat your throat, and the lemon helps reduce inflammation caused by the cough and also provides Vitamin C to help fight infection. It's important to reduce inflammation helps to get rid of the coughing reaction.
After a few days of rest and medicine (and a Stars Wars movie marathon too!), Cam got better just in time for his concert-
I highly recommend keeping some Vicks on hand- they provide effective symptom relief and are free of alcohol, artificial dyes (liquids only) and gluten. And, the honey is a sweet (soothing) bonus!
