9/11- We Remember
/I've been looking at the calendar the last few days, thinking 9/11 is coming up. I remember 5 years ago, I was at work when it happened. When I heard a plane hit the building, I thought it was a minor accident. I didn't realize it was a terrorist attack. Then I heard they had hit the Pentagon and a plane crashed in PA. That's when everything came together that our country was under attack. My husband works in a major city near here and all I could think was they were headed for us. Everyone left downtown and I left work early and stayed home, watching tv for hours, not sure what to make of the whole thing.
In the mid 90's, I attended college that was within a few hours of the city. I used to go there about once a month with friends to have fun. NYC was one of those places that seemed like nothing could conquer or destroy it. Then to have thousands of people die in an instant, in such a horrible way, seemed incomprehensible.
My heart hurts today for all those families that lost someone so tragically. And my heart hurts for our country. Remember them today. Light a candle, proudly fly a flag, give your spouse and children a big hug. Never forget 9/11.
