Weekend Update

Have you heard of the new law restricting the sale of used children's clothing and other products? If you sell used clothing to resale shops or shop at them, you don't have to worry. Luckily, it doesn't apply to resale shops. Here is some good info I got off another message board:

"Many of you have heard about the recent change in law regarding lead testing in children’s products (clothing, toys, etc.) that has been in the news recently. This law, HR 4040, deals with high lead limits and the new restrictions that the US Government has placed on children’s products. There was a great deal of misinformation and fear floating around, both on the internet and in other media outlets, about this law. Everyone can breathe a huge sigh of relief… this law is not going to close consignment sales, stores, resale or thrift shops!!! Yesterday and today I spoke directly to Congressman Bobby Rush’s offices, both in Chicago and Washington DC. Congressman Rush (D-Ill) authored this bill. His offices assured me that the intent of this law applies to future children’s products manufactured after February 10, 2009. It DOES NOT apply to products we already have in our homes. The only exception to this would be children’s products that have already been declared too high in lead levels and thus are listed on past and current recall lists which can be found at www.cpsc.gov

Again, this new law DOES NOT affect consignment businesses, resale shops or thrift stores at all."
