Why I Need a Martha Stewart Intervention

As spring approaches northeast Ohio, I have been thinking more of organizing my basement. We have lived here for 7+ years and in that time, we have accumulated a lot of stuff. Even with sending some to Goodwill, throwing things out and giving things away, it is still a nightmare. And my bargain-shopping doesn't help either! It wasn't always this way- a few years ago, we had a flood in our basement and that was motivation enough to get more organized- at least for the time being. As the following few years went by, the pile of stuff grew.

Anyway, in my quest to organize my basement, I watched a Martha Stewart episode, where she was organizing her basement. Everything was neat, stacked in clear bins and labeled. With a label-maker. I can't even find my label-maker! As I watched in awe, I wondered "How can I become that person?"

I've always thought of myself as someone who was "messy/organized". You know, one of those people who have a pile of stuff out and yet "know where everything is!". This is one reason I started watching her organizing tip shows on Directv, to get inspired. I have also been tivoing "Hoarders" as a way to scare myself into not going down that road either!

I'm not sure how else to motivate myself. Or put to use all the ideas I have been gathering from tv and magazines.

Organized people, I need your help! Please post comments with your tips. Thanks everyone! :) I will keep you all updated with my progress!
